How we got started:
Targets USA originally started in January of 2014 while building some parts for another project. Some of the parts didn’t work as they were intended to, so we decided to use them as targets, but we needed a way to hang them or hold them. And so, it began, and has evolved tremendously since. With years of experience building much larger objects for the heavy equipment industry in the very harsh and demanding environment of Alaska, we already had a pretty good idea of how to build things that can take a beating. We have learned a lot since we started and we are always trying to advance our products to be the best they can be. We won’t build a new product if we do not see a way to make it better than any similar product on the market. We believe strongly that there is always a better way, you just have to figure it out.
Since early on in this endeavor, we knew we wanted to make high quality products that are portable and very easy to set up. As things developed more, we started to focus on making as much of the product as possible fit in USPS flat rate boxes so we would be able to accommodate shooting enthusiast everywhere while maintaining a reasonable shipping rate. Over 95% of our products can be shipped in USPS flat rate boxes. Larger items such as dueling trees, large gongs, and our full-size torsos are unable to be shipped flat rate. Our products can be set up in literally minutes and can fit in the trunk of even a small car! They typically require very few additional components that are not able to be shipped with the targets and stands.
Shooting steel is very exciting and fun to do, but one should understand what types of targets are best for the different types of shooting. While each style is not exclusively used for one way or the other, there will be pros and cons for each. Generally speaking, static steel will be used for pistol targets and shot at fairly close distance, but for some types of advance carbine training, static steel will be used at closer than normal distances. This will most of the time result in some pitting of the plates, especially from high velocity rounds like .223/5.56. Most people who do this type of training are already aware that this will deteriorate the plate and that side of the plate should no longer be used for close pistol or rimfire as it will not be as safe to shoot at close ranges. The call to use or not use any plate is a call that must be made by whoever is running the course or the RSO at the range.
Using steel in classes you instruct will make your students remember their experience with you, over other instructors who don’t use steel, and look to your company when they are ready for more instruction. We do offer a discount for certified instructors who are looking to purchase steel for their training and teaching purposes. Proof of certificate and class schedule will be required to receive the discount.
Items that can’t be shipped in flat rate boxes:
Items that won't fit will have a * in the description and part number.
Some of the items are: Dueling Trees, Falling Trees, 75% D zone torsos, 18”x24” rectangle and torsos, rounds and squares larger than 12”, knock down bowling pins that are on a base, and any other plate that has a dimension of more than 12” wide X 23.5” tall.
