Our standard base offers you the option to use it to hold up a 2x4 for putting up a vertical steel target hanger, or with the additional 1x2 pocket you can turn the base sideways and use it to hold up paper or cardboard targets of any width.

Steel Plate Y Bases

These new AR steel plate 2x4 and steel riser bases are the nicest and most versatile base we have made. Whether you are just looking for a couple stands that can hold up your steel or something that can also be used to hold your paper targets as well, these are super nice. These will also work much better in windier conditions with their wide foot print. These are at a very good price point compared to other bases with similar designs, but that don't have as many features as these. Check them out and we are sure you will be very happy with these.

Vertical Flat Bar Base Adapters

This NEW adapters are to use with our new 3/8" x 1.5" flat bar system instead of a 2x4. This means much longer lasting, no splintered wood, much longer time between service, and a much cleaner presentation of the plates.

The first Adapter will allow you to mount the flat bar into just about any 2x4 base and the set screw on the side is to adjust the width to avoid or minimize the need for shims to keep it straight. The other one that just shows the red plate and hardware is for clamping the flat bar directly into our Y bases that have the holes in the side of the 2x4 pocket, this set up is very solid.

All parts will be painted black, the colors are just to help show how the system works.

​Set up:

If you didn’t order the base with the legs, you will need to get 3 pieces of 3/4" electrical conduit, 3/4" black pipe, or 1” square tube to use for the legs. Anything 18-24” will work, longer doesn’t hurt. We use 3/4" IMC electrical conduit, which can be found at most hardware stores and any electrical supply store. We cut them at 22”, which is the minimum needed to be able to set up a 24” wide target.
Starting with the 2x4 part of the base, install the 3 legs into the pockets and tighten down the eyebolts to hold the legs in place. If you are using the base for steel, then you’re ready to insert the 2x4. Insert the 2x4 and tighten the T bolt to secure the 2x4. To make the 2x4 lean less, sometimes a shim on one side or the other is nice, but not a must. When using high energy targets like swingers and flipper paddles, it is recommended to take as much movement out of the 2x4 in the base as possible for the targets to perform as intended.
If you’re using it for a paper or card board target, then install the 1x2 pocket piece on the straight leg and it should be on the same side as the T bolt that is on the 2x4 piece. The T bolt on the 2x4 piece is long enough to go in far enough to hold a piece of 1x2 tight against the opposite side of the base as the other 1x2 pocket.
